MBA launches Sustainability Report

On May 6, 2024, a report titled “Promoting Mauritius as a Sustainable Finance Hub for the Region” was presented to stakeholders from the Financial Services industry at an event hosted by HSBC, in the presence of Mrs Hemlata Sadhna Sewraj-Gopal, Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Mauritius and Mr. Justin Wu, HSBC’s Co-head for Climate Change for Asia Pacific.

The report, which was commissioned by the MBA with the generous support of HSBC and produced by independent sustainability consultants Blue Acacia, identifies sustainability initiatives in benchmark markets such as Singapore, Hong Kong, South Africa, Rwanda, the UK and EU, in terms of:

  1. Standards
  2. Skills
  3. Subsidies

Its objective is to serve as a basis for discussion as the banking community progresses on its sustainability journey.

The report is an initiative of the MBA’s ESG Taskforce, co-chaired by HSBC and ABSA, set up under the aegis of the Future of Banking in Mauritius project, a joint strategic collaboration between the Bank of Mauritius and the MBA.
