MBA Annual General Meeting: Mr. Abrar Anwar elected as Chairperson

Tuesday 24 June 2025: The Mauritius Bankers Association (MBA) held its Annual General Meeting on Monday 23 June 2025. Mr Abrar Anwar, Managing Director & CEO, Standard Chartered Bank (Mauritius) Limited, was elected as Chairperson of the MBA for a one-year mandate.

Also elected were the two Deputy Chairpersons, Ms. Sangeetha Ramkelawon, Chief Executive Officer, BCP Bank (Mauritius) Ltd, and Mr. Thierry Hebraud, Chief Executive Officer, The Mauritius Commercial Bank Limited.  

Mr. Abrar Anwar, Chairperson of the MBA, stated being deeply honoured by the trust placed in him by the members of the MBA. The Mauritius International Financial Centre has considerable growth potential in an especially pivotal period for our global economy. There is substantial opportunity for us to help realise that potential. It is my honour to lend my experience, alongside my colleagues and through the MBA in support of the jurisdiction for its ambitions,” he said.

Mr. Anwar has previously served as Deputy chairperson of the MBA, and brings over 30 years of experience in corporate and investment banking, and as CEO spanning various markets such as Malaysia, India, the UK & Bangladesh, to his role.
