Mr. Premchand Mungar currently holds the office of Chief Executive of SBM Bank (Mauritius) Ltd. A seasoned banker with nearly two decades of senior executive experience in institutional transformations in Mauritius and continental Africa, Mr. Mungar started his career in banking within the SBM Group, where he has held several senior positions.
He previously served as Chief Executive and Executive Director of MauBank Ltd from 2018 to 2023. His past experiences also include positions of General Counsel and Senior Director, among other leading roles, at The Eastern & Southern African Trade & Development Bank (TDB). He also serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director on the Board of the Financial Services Commission (FSC) since 2017 and is the Chairman of the Audit & Risk Committee of the FSC since 2018.
Mr. Mungar holds an MSc Finance and Financial Law from the University of London and an LLB in English Law and French Law from the University of Mauritius. He has followed several Executive Programmes, including the LEAD Program of the Stanford University Graduate Business School, and attended the 10th Autumn Course on International Finance of the Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan, organised in collaboration with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation.
During his career, Mr. Mungar has been the recipient of several accolades, including the TDB President’s Excellence Award for recognition of the outstanding contribution to TDB.
Mr. Mungar also serves as Executive Director on the Board of Directors of SBM Bank (Mauritius) Ltd.
