Mr. Abrar Anwar was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Standard Chartered Mauritius in April 2023. Prior to joining the Mauritius franchise, Abrar was CEO of Standard Chartered Malaysia Berhad from 2017 to 2022.
Mr. Anwar has more than 30 years of experience in corporate and investment banking and country franchise management.
He first joined Standard Chartered in 2011 as Head of Corporate and Institutional Clients and he has worked across multiple countries, including India, the UK and Bangladesh. He rose through the ranks and was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bangladesh in 2015 till 2017.
Prior to joining Standard Chartered Bangladesh, he was Managing Director and Head of Global Corporate and Commercial Banking at Citibank NA in Bangladesh, as well as Head of Specialist Finance and Advisory Services at ANZ Grindlays Bank.
Mr. Anwar holds an MBA degree from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Bangladesh’s premier business school. Abrar is a Chartered Banker (CB) from Chartered Banker Institute (CBI) UK and Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB), Malaysia.
