Budget 2026-2027: MBA Notes Progress on Key Priorities

The Mauritius Bankers Association (MBA) took part in the Budget Speech debrief organised by Business Mauritius, where it welcomed several measures in the 2026-2027 Budget reflecting priorities raised in its pre-Budget memorandum, including continued fiscal consolidation, AML-CFT measures ahead of next year’s ESAAMLG/FATF review, and steps to improve the ease of doing business and talent migration. The Association continues to monitor closely any amendments that may be brought to the Finance Bill, alongside noting Banking Act amendments clarifying issues raised with the Bank of Mauritius.

While some digitalisation and SME-specific measures were not directly adopted, the Budget introduced related initiatives, including a database of financing schemes for SMEs. The MBA confirmed all sections of its memorandum were addressed, at least in part.

Looking ahead, the Association seeks further clarity on the proposed bank resolution regime and its impact on competitiveness, and looks forward to engaging with Government on the upcoming review of the Income Tax Act.
